Get To Know Me

My name is Marya Kausar and I am currently studying Media and Communications at Birmingham City University due to graduate in July 2020. I am an ambitious and passionate individual who is ready to take on any challenge given my way. I have always been intrigued by how many hours and people it took to put on an event. I now want to take a step forward and book my role in the making of an event. My career goal is to work my way up within the events industry and become an event planner. Previous, I have worked with Humsafar Wedding Services, Sapphire Conference and Banqueting Suite. And currently, I am working with Aqsa Wedding Events. My website portrays the skills and experience I have while working within the events industry. Check it out!

Past Roles

Aqsa Wedding Events

December 2019 - Present

Currently, I am working with Aqsa Wedding Events. With this event company, I carry out a variety of different roles and responsibilities. For example, decorating the venue, coming up with decor ideas, serving food and overseeing the lighting and technical operations.

Sapphire Banqueting and Conference Suite

July 2017 - June 2019

My responsibilities were making sure the event ran smoothly without any issue. I had tasks such as to set up the venue for the booking, open the entrances and toilets on the day. I’d greet and welcome the clients that booked the venue and made sure to be responsible for the heat/air situation throughout the event. At the end of the day I’d inspect the venue, disconnect the speakers, turn the air/heating off and lights too. I would also lock the kitchen, toilets, entrances and car park. This role has given me the opportunity to advance my leadership skills and practice my strong customer service skills.

Humsafar Wedding Services

July 2016 - December 2018

Within this event company, I had many responsibilities such as setting the stage, securing the backdrop, fixing centrepieces, putting on chair covers and bows. On a day to day basis I organise, count and load all the stock into the van. I also arranged appointments for customers to come into the office for a consultation. When customers finalised their decision, I’d take their details and book them in for a specific date of their choice. I also closely helped clients with prop making, research, and assistance. I have also learnt a lot about the events industry through this job. This role has helped me with my administrative skills and challenged me to use my creativity in any situation. Working in a event company has taught me how to work under pressure and how to work in a team effectively.
